vCJD (variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease) could be transmitted by blood transfusion

Blood transfusion could transmit the prion disease known as variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. Prion diseases are also called transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSE). They occur in humans and animals, primarily affecting the central nervous system.  They can be sporadic (spontaneous), familial (genetic/inherited) or acquired (transmitted by infection).
